“Expect the Unexpected”, He Said !

Dad had wise and wonderful sayings for most anything. Was your dad like that?

One of his age old sayings to me was, ”always expect, the unexpected”.  That was dad. Full of wisdomic sayings, which at the time, made no sense. It was just ‘dad-talk’.

I mean…. listen a moment…. this dad of mine, {I love him to pieces} he is the one who told me:

“The only thing you can put in your ear, is your elbow AND it might help, to stand on a chair.”

… and as a little kid, that made sense!
Standing on a chair,
should bring my elbow higher up,
cuz “I” would be higher up.
However,
it did not work out that way.
I had to tell dad that he was wrong.

Then the day came, in my early adulthood years. I was driving the highway south, from northern Michigan’s, Traverse City area.  It was a beautiful day, which aided in keeping me alert, having had no sleep in over 24 hours.

As I was steering around a curve in the highway… all of a sudden, a blur of ‘unknown fast movement’, hit my peripheral vision. Something was barreling up and over the ravine on my right. It was a Jeep!

I reflexively maneuvered, avoiding possible collision. I saw in my mirror that the Jeep was safely under control. Then I thought of my dad and more fully understood:

“Always Expect the Unexpected”

With that shared, I would now like to share this tidbit of info for November 4 – 6, 2017.

Communications Interoperability Training with Amateur Radio Community Set

[Nov. 1, 2017 Update from the  U.S. Army’s Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM: The exercise will simulate a power-outage scenario; it will not impact any public or private communications. There will be no power outages of communications systems. This exercise is designed to improve readiness, build cooperation and public awareness, and better prepare to defend the nation.]

Elements of the US Department of Defense (DOD) will conduct a “communications interoperability” training exercise November 4-6, once again simulating a “very bad day” scenario. Amateur Radio and MARS organizations will take part.
