there was something about the water…

I lived in northern Michigan at the time.

I went for a walk,
along the beach,
on that cold spring day.
The ice had left the shoreline,
fresh fallen snow whitened the beach.

Spring was just around the corner.

The bitter cold air,
quickened my pace
and
shortened my walk.

I decided to head back to the warmth of the house …

… and then it happened….I stopped walking.

Was one of those
‘gut feeling’ things.

I generally listen to my gut.

Without hesitation,
or

questions
or
expectations

………..

….except for today.

It was bitter cold outside!
The wind was starting to kick up!

I wanted shelter,
not open icy waters!

And yet, my gut…
was nudging me to stay.

PHOOEY with that!!!

I started walking towards home
and
I soon stopped,
turned
and
went back to my original
stopped-spot
and
stood facing the lake.

I looked to my left,
towards home.

and
saw nothing exciting.

I glanced a quick view
of the waters before me
and
several black stones
caught my eye.

I have a stone collection….
maybe I stopped here
for the stones….

….and
I looked to my right,
the direction I had
just traveled.

and
nothing exciting
appeared to me.

I faced the water again.

There was something about the water……

I looked in the water
and
this time….

I saw an odd shiny object
among the black stones.

I used my walking stick,
to reach out
and
drag the item
closer to shore.
